Today we’re pleased to premiere a brand new video from Jenny, a project led by Justin Maurer (also of Clorox Girls, Maniac, Suspect Parts, and L.A. Drugz). It’s not just a new video, but also the first Spanish language release from the project: the a-side “Trajinero” from a new 7" that also includes “Kids of Today” (b-side in English).

The song and video, Maurer explains, was inspired by a trip to Mexico City and a boat ride in the swamps of Xochimilco, noting the skill of the traijineros maneuvering their gondolas. With help from Jacob Fernandez (Las Cruscas, les Tragiques, Desobedientes), Gabriel Lopez (Espectroplasma, Sonido Gallo Negro, and Maurer’s former L.A. Drugz bandmates, they pieced together this unique tale that took their travel experiences and added some flair:

A plot where a lovelorn working-class trajinero must commit crimes to keep his upper-middle class fresa girlfriend happy. Loosely based on the plot of Emilio “El Indio” Fernández 1943 film Maria Candelaria, our protagonist commits a crime of passion and ends up in jail. He makes a plea to himself for his own happiness and survival, a passionate cry of “Ni Carcel/Ni Ella/Ni Nerds” which translates to “Not jail, not her, not nerds.”

USA pre-orders are available now via Dirt Cult Records, with both clear and black vinyl available in limited supply. Wanda Records is handling the European release.

Check out more from Jenny at Bandcamp.
