Each month at SPB we feature a new record on the site. While we like to talk and write about music, the common is goal is simply sharing music with others. And this month we’re excited to present the self-titled debut album from Evansville, IN based Amblare.

The band was founded by the late Byran St. Pere (Hum) and recorded the album before his passing in 2021 alongside vocalist Matt McGuyer and bassist Alex Wallwork. Nearly three years later, the remaining members share it with the world to continue his legacy.

McGuyer tells us:

Bryan St. Pere and I had met years prior, being fellow drummers and living in Evansville, Indiana. We got together to hang out and we agreed that starting a band for these songs I had been writing was a fun idea and worthwhile quest. He mentioned that for bass, we needed a local guy we knew about and both loved. That is Alex Wallwork. My first time ever seeing him, he was playing bass at a local music store and I fell in love with his playing, recognizing that he sounds like the bass player I had always hoped to meet someday. We fit together instantly. So we officially became a band and made up the name Amblare. We played a few shows. We tracked the record live on two occasions at Earth Analog Recording Studio. The spring of 2019 and the winter of 2020. Bryan passed away in the summer of 2021 as we were nearing completion of the album.

The record was produced by Matt Talbott (Hum) and mastered by Mario Quintero (Spotlights).  It releases on April 5 via Melodic Virtue and balances between heavy, post-hardcore and emotive, contemplative tones.

To celebrate its release, the band will be playing live shows in 2024 with a guest drummer.
