Pygmy Lush is back in action, announcing the release of a 2016-recorded album that was unreleased until 2025. The new album, Totem, will release on July 11 via Persistent Vision Records . It was recorded and mixed by Kurt Ballou in 2016 and, with the band active again, they decided to release the record to the world.

The band was formed by brothers Chris Taylor and Mike Taylor as an offshoot of Pageninetynine, last releasing Old Friends (Lovitt) in 2011, before reforming in 2024.

"Frankly, we lost momentum shortly after recording the album. It was a very transitional time for Pygmy Lush where we were trying hard to figure out what this group wanted to do," Mike Taylor explains of the record, adding, "I personally have wanted to release Totem as a document of this era of the band, in order to continue moving forward." In essesnce, the band says, it is a bridge album as their sound has evolved.

Lovitt (2008)

The metamorphosis is complete. Where Bitter River combined harsh and acoustic tracks, Mount Hope excludes the 'harsh.' In this way, one can view Pygmy Lush's roots, the seminal Pg. 99 and City of Caterpillar, as the larva, or caterpillar, if you will. Pygmy Lush's first release, Bitter River, then serves as the cocoon transition between musicians' prior work into the … Read more

Bitter River is the most bipolar release of 2007, hands down. Members of Pygmy Lush were once in groups such as Pg. 99, City of Caterpillar, Majority Rule, and Hissing Choir just to name a few. Now, they've found themselves writing an album that changes drastically over the course of fourteen songs (two songs were added to the CD release, … Read more
