Iron & Wine and Ben Bridwell - Making Good Time EP

Roughly one decade after releasing a covers album together, Iron & Wine have once again teamed with Ben Bridwell (Band of Horses) for a follow-up covers collection, this time a new EP called Making Good Time, out Sept. 12.

The first single is a new take on "Luther," originally by Kendrick Lamar and Sza.

"I chose to focus on ‘Luther' after kinda hitting a wall wondering which songs would be best to contribute. After much hand-wringing, it hit me, 'Why not just do my favorite song?' I’d been playing the then newly released GNX album on repeat and that song in particular with my girls to the point of exhaustion," Bridwell says.

Banf of Horses and Iron & Wine are also planning a co-headlining tour this fall.

Tracklisting:

  1. I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
  2. Luther
  3. I Want To Know What Love Is
  4. More Than This
  5. Ketchum, ID

As a long-time Iron and Wine fan, I was intrigued by the announcement of this double-disc release that spans the spectrum of Sam Beam's musical career. What most call a rarities and b-sides album, I see more of an insight into the progression of Beam's collaborative sound, compiling many of his strongest tracks that never made it onto his full-length … Read more

I should never set expectations when it comes to music. When was the last time an album was exactly as good or as bad or as neutral as you thought it would be prior to its release? It never works out the way you want it to. Take Iron and Wine's latest release, The Shepherd's Dog. Coming off of the … Read more

Woman King
Sub Pop (2005)

Judging an artist based on another's artistic merit is an unfair and pretty bogus way of looking at music, but whenever I listen to Iron & Wine (and/or almost any other artist that could be considered part of this whole "neo-folk" mini-movement), I honestly can't help but think: "This is pretty good, but it's no Will Oldham." It's difficult to … Read more

Alright. Full disclosure: While the moniker Iron & Wine blipped here and there on my radar and your humble narrator thinking that it would not be the worst name for a band anchored in the unsägliche genre that has become known as Neofolk, I had never actually listened to Sam … Read more
