Black Guy Fawkes, a punk and folk influenced singer-songwriter project from Ian Robinson, will release their fifth album, The Misery Suite, next month. The record comes out on Sept. 19 on Asbestos Records..
Speaking of the record's sound and origin, Robinson says:
Back in 2023 in January I started therapy for the first time. After the first year, I started writing a record that I thought was going to be a cross between Radiohead and Bloc Party. But, I later realized on that felt wrong. I put on Nirvana’s In Utero, and I just love the guitar sounds so much and that record in general. I think two days later I wrote the first and final track of the record and The Misery Suite was born.
The Misery Suite itself is what I called my office at the time because I was sitting in there either brooding or having therapy sessions on my laptop and it was a way for me to get out what I needed to at the time.
This is a record about confronting things that I was learning about myself in that first year of therapy, the baggage I walked in with, and the lessons I learned along the way.
