Known for her work in Big Eyes and Cheeky, Kait Eldridge is back with her second solo album, out next month on Nov. 7. The record is to be titled Very Special People and will release via Lets Pretend Records.

While the album title makes it sound uplifting, we have a surprise for you:

"Here's more sad songs from yours truly," Eldridge says of the new collection.

Very Special People draws inspiration from 1990s singer-songwriter sensibilities (think Elliott Smith) while intertwining that vulnerability with the more potent power-pop sound of Big Eyes. You’ll get those influences clearly, but also chamber pop, baroque interludes, and atmospheric synths within the wider sound.

The record was written and recorded during the COVID pandemic and follows Eldridge’s solo debut, The Dark Tower concept album.

We’re excited to debut “Like a Bull” from the record:

release show:

Sat Nov 1, 2025
The P.I.T. (411 South 5th St., Brooklyn, NY)
with: Kait Eldridge, Shellshag, Patrick Jennings, Okada Stark Van-Dyck Quartet

Buy the record from Lets Pretend.

In the past I’ve described Big Eyes as half-punk, half-classic rock in a Cheap Trick vein. It’s concise and punchy like punk, but the energy relies on more traditional rock hooks. It’s great, but a part of me fears for the band’s growth because most other band’s I’ve enjoyed that get compared to classic rock eventually end up writing self-indulgent … Read more

As much I knew I’d like this record after spending some time with Almost Famous and seeing the band live a few times, I was hesitant to review it. There are certain sounds I have trouble describing. Seattle is made out to be such a dreary place. Big Eyes released a largely positive-sounding debut in Hard Life and the reviews basically talked about the band’s relocation from Brooklyn to Seattle. Now, with the release of sophomore full-length Almost Famous, the press sheet says things like “a bit of Seattle seeps in,” no doubt referring to some of … Read more
