Against all odds, Butthole Surfers broke through with a hit single "Pepper" on their Electric Larryland album. Subsequently, the album's planned 1998 follow-up After The Astronaut was pulled at the last minute by their label, only to collect dust until 2026 with the band releasing the album this year, on June 26.

“We were pretty stoked to make another album after the success of our previous album and its single ‘Pepper’,” guitarist Paul Leary says via press release. “Capitol Records was stoked to get that next record until our relationship soured,” he adds. “Hollywood Records bought the album but wanted to make changes to it which was an uncomfortable experience for us,” he says, which ultimately became Weird Revolution in 2001. “Now we have the right to release the original recording the way we intended it to be with its original title, After The Astronaut.”

And there you have it. Thirty years of legal wrangling and such, summed up in a single paragraph.

Oh, and the band shared a single too -- so you don't have to wait until June 26, 2026, henceforth known as Butthole Surfers Day.
