A celebration of Caleb Scofield
A celebration of Caleb Scofield

A benefit concert featuring Cave In, Old Man Gloom, Pelican, Celestial (ISIS), and 27 will take place in Los Angeles on Oct. 13.

The concert celebrates the departed Caleb Scofield (Cave In, Old Man Gloom) and will raise funds to benefit his surviving family members after his untimely passing in March.

The performers are previous band members of Scofield and close friends. 27 features Cave In's Adam McGrath). Celestial is a one-time performance by the members of ISIS, who played their final show under that moniker in June of 2010.

Celestial members Jeff Caxide, Mike Gallagher, Aaron Harris, Bryant Clifford Meyer and Aaron Turner issued a statement about the concert:

Caleb was a touring partner and bandmate to the individual and collective personnel of ISIS; he was also a dear friend, roommate and collaborator. We are profoundly saddened that Caleb is gone. His place in our lives and hearts is indelible. Caleb’s loss is unquestioningly felt most deeply by the family he leaves behind: his wife Jen and children Desmond and Sydney.

As a group we are moved to try to do something to help them, and to commemorate Caleb’s life, to celebrate what he meant to us. Sadly, we were unable to participate in the Boston Scofield family benefit show on June 13. However, we will be performing at the Los Angeles event on Oct. 13, along with Caleb’s friends in Cave In, Old Man Gloom, 27 and Pelican.

On this occasion, we are choosing to perform under the name Celestial. This event is a one-off performance to benefit Caleb’s family in their time of need and to pay tribute to a person we loved and lost.

We are glad to be able to do our small part in the face of this tragedy and are looking forward to coming together to celebrate the beautiful and all too brief life of Caleb Scofield. Thank you.

THIS IS A FAKE REVIEW!! Old Man Gloom sent out a fake version of the album to the reviewers in order to avoid the actual albums (yeah that’s right! Albums!) from leaking before the release date. Celestial (Re-Issue)
Ipecac (2013)

I could make a career out of doing reviews of Isis reissues. But what makes reviewing Celestial so difficult is that it is already a legendary album, to the point where everything to be said about it from a critical standpoint has been said before. So instead of trying to sell you on the album itself (because really, it's just fucking great), I'm going to examine Ipecac's … Read more

I absolutely love Isis--I can't get enough of that perfectly executed ambient/sludge mix that they've come to be known for. And for someone like me who loves them enough to delve into the deepest corners of their catalogue, their 2012 rarities compilation Temporal came as a welcome entry to their discography.Disc one begins with your standard assortment of demo material. Unfortunately, while … Read more
