You can always tell when a band contains seasoned musicians. They give off a different aura through their music and it sounds complete. It just meshes better. The songwriting is well done, the vocal melodies are catchy, and the transitions from verses, choruses, and bridges are complex but accessible. That is the case with this band.

Let me introduce you to the band Sleep Pod Two. The name kind of threw me for a loop since it is a bit off the wall. However, after a simple search on what it means, I knew this band was one after my own heart. Apparently, it references the concept of shared experiences and human connections, particularly through difficult times. Now with that being said, that could also just be nonsense from the Google AI gods, but I’m rolling with it.

This new band is comprised of members of GamefaceJr. Juggernaunt, and For Closure. The band is dropping their debut EP titled Rehearse Your Future via Mindpower Records on August 29, 2025. The first single “All That We Have (Is Each Other)” is already available for your listening pleasure on all streaming platforms.

The three song EP is a solid introduction for the newly established band of scene vets. Despite having formed in late 2022 and offering only demos previously, this is their first official release on a label. If this is an indication of things to come, you need to make sure you are following this band closely because they are good. I can’t wait to see how the songwriting will progress with the next release.

The songs on this EP feel very mid-to-late '90s punk with hints of early emo. This EP could’ve easily been released back in the day on Revelation Records or Vagrant Records where it would’ve fit right in with the discography for those labels at the time. The songs are upbeat and catchy. You can’t help but move your body and tap your foot along. You can hear influences from Hot Rod CircuitFarside, and similar artists from that era.

While having a throwback feel and sound, it still feels very current feeling and enjoyable. The production quality is wonderful and sounds great. Check out the new EP when it drops and be sure to follow them on Instagram at @SleepPodTwo to keep up with their latest happenings.

Mirrors & Smoke
Independent (2026)

There’s a fine line between stripped down music and so stripped back that is sounds empty. On Mirrors and Smoke, Nicole Alexis lands comfortably on the right side of that line, delivering a debut EP that leans into simplicity without losing its emotional weight. Built around acoustic arrangements and minimal production, the EP feels intentionally close. It feels like these … Read more

Too Tough
Fail Harmonic Records, Mom’s Basement Records (2025)

There’s a certain kind of punk band that doesn’t overthink things. No reinvention, no genre-bending manifesto, just fast songs, big hooks, and enough attitude to carry it all. Indianapolis’ The Remote Controls lean hard into that tradition on Too Tough, a record that feels less like a statement and more like a well-earned victory lap. Built on a steady diet … Read more

Don’t Say Please: The Oral History of Die Kreuzen
Feral House (2026)

For those of us who spent the mid-to-late 1980s navigating basement community halls, churches, and loveable, armpit-smelling dive bars, the name Die Kreuzen was a permanent fixture on the punk rock radar. They were the sound of the Midwest underground --too fast for the goths to do their spooky Bela Lugosi "shoo the bats away" interpretive dance, too technical for … Read more
