When I saw this split 7” announced, I genuinely got excited. I love both bands. I knew that when you have two powerhouse punk bands coming together to drop a split, nothing could go wrong. While one of the bands, Pulley, is a household name in the punk community, the other is on the rise. I guarantee you know the other bands that the members of Fire Sale play in. This split EP features two songs from each band and it stunning from start to finish.

Pulley kicks it off with the first two tracks. If you aren’t familiar with them, I would be highly surprised and question how much you actually like punk. Forming in 1994, they are southern California skate-punk vets. They have released seven full length albums over that time, countless worldwide tours, and are known for their high-energy punk anthems.

Pulley’s two tracks just straight rip. I love the wall of guitars and vocal harmonies. It’s the great song writing and energy that you would expect from the band. Out of the two, my personal favorite is “Write A Note If You Leave”. The guitar melodies and heartfelt lyrics are a solid package. Everyone can relate to losing someone close to them and the emotion in this song is felt.

Fire Sale takes on the B side with their two tracks. They have slowly become one of my favorite newer punk bands. As stated before, they have a powerhouse lineup of members from bands you know and love. The band features members from Face To FaceNo Use For A NameThe Ataris, and The Iron Roses. In their slew of 7” releases, they have managed to perfectly combine the melodic hooks coupled with the classic skate-punk sound.

Their tracks are just so ridiculously good. I love the vocal melodies, guitar leads, and technical picking patterns. It’s so melodic and catchy that you catch yourself wanting more. Between the band’s double dose offering, my favorite has to be the midtempo track “Call Of The Void”.

Overall, the production on both sides of this release is top notch. Negative Progression Records has been releasing some solid releases lately. I highly suggest you give them a follow to some more band you may not have heard of. This EP split is a must have release for collectors or anyone that wants a great EP to listen to.

Indianola (2005)

The 80's weren't really as bad as those VH1 specials make it out to be. Sure the fashion of those years was pretty atrocious, but try going to a concert today without laughing. It's hard, trust me. Throughout the decade there was quality music being made on all fronts - pop, hardcore, new-wave, hip hop, and punk. There were some … Read more

Generations: A Hardcore Compilation
Revelation (2005)

I turned 31 about a month ago and at my age a person tends to finally want to "grow up" and get out of hardcore. There's been plenty of lonely Friday and Saturday nights (like tonight) where I've wanted just pack up 90% of my CD collection (the fuck if I'm going to give up my Cro-Mags and Lifetime discs) … Read more

Tempers of music fans ran high from the day stories were posted on various sites that specific bands were to be covering songs that are heralded as classics in the genres of punk rock and hardcore. A metalcore band covering Bad Brains? A pop-punk band covering the legendary Gorilla Biscuits? Surely this is some sort of joke. Surely not. Say … Read more
