Northern Towns (Daniel Sant)

What are your top five albums that were released in 2009? (In order 1-5)

  1. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

  2. Cold Cave - Love Comes Close

  3. Kasabian - West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum

  4. Raekwon - Only Built for Cuban Linx 2

  5. Ian Brown - My Way

What band did you discover in 2009 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?

I have always been a Joy Division fan and loved them since I first heard them at thirteen or fourteen, but this year I completely immersed myself in their records for a long period of time. I cannot rate this band highly enough. Although my mate Boardy hates them because Bernard Sumner popped his football when he was a kid because it went over his (Sumner's) fence, haha. He's missing out!

How will you remember 2009? (In terms of music)

Some great shows, some great records, but a let down as far as music as a whole. I was very proud to have two Northern Towns' records come out this year and for Swagger City to do such a great job with the releases.

2009 was a huge year for reunions. What reunion excited you the most? What band that has not reunited would you love to see play/record most in 2010?

Unbroken. Having moved to San Diego when I was seventeen, Unbroken was a big band for my discovery of local hardcore. The sheer passion and emotion that was conveyed in their lyrics was a first for metallic sounding hardcore. An amazing band that has never promised more than they were prepared to deliver, which was everything. As far as 2010, I would love to see a Pulp reunion. There have been rumors that they will play Coachella; if that is the case I will be there having my pasty skin terrorized by the sun.

What can we look forward to from you in 2010?

We are going to record a new full-length LP entitled 'Love-L.U.V.' It is by far the best collection of songs we have written and we are extremely excited to see how it comes out.

What three records are you looking forward to most in 2010?

A new Glasvegas record, a new Jarvis Cocker record, and I am extremely excited to see what Liam and Noel do without each other.
