Restorations (Jon Loudon)

What are your top five albums that were released in 2009? (In order 1-5)

  1. Attack In Black -Years (By One Thousand Fingertips)

  2. Bill Callahan - Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle

  3. Paint It Black -Amnesia / Surrender

  4. Tombs - Winter Hours

  5. Mountain Goats - The Life Of The World To Come

What band did you discover in 2009 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?

Frances from Hopalong got me into Bill Callahan. Such an overwhelming but rewarding discography. Easily the best live show I saw all year too. Brutal, low register vocals over minimal instrumentation. As miserable as it is inspiring.

How will you remember 2009? (In terms of music)

2009 seemed to be a weird transitional year for everybody. Lots of exciting new-ish bands, venues, and spaces happening around here. While this year didn't produce many great records in my opinion, I think its all setting up for an interesting 2010.

2009 was a huge year for reunions. What reunion excited you the most? What band that has not reunited would you love to see play/record most in 2010?

Honestly, I hope this reunion thing stops soon. It's never as good on the reunion tour. I'm much more excited to hear new music.

What can we look forward to from you in 2010?

Restorations has a two-song 45 coming out any day now, a four-song 10in/EP in late winter/early spring, and a single song split with Rosetta in early summer. We'll be demoing for another EP/full length, and maybe some extra songs from this last session will be on some splits.

What three records are you looking forward to most in 2010?

Look Mexico, The National, Rosetta

It was about a year ago I discovered Unseemlier, shortly before the release of I Have A Screw Loose, Somewhere. It's a wordy title and a somewhat unwieldy band name -- and I’ll use that “a lot going on in a little space” metaphor even further to talk about the … Read more

I first discovered the New York Dolls in the mid-to-late 1980s, just as I was beginning to stretch the boundaries of my musical journey.
