Filippo (Shizune – bass)
SPB: Breviario d'oblio is something of a comeback after 8 years. What triggered this comeback?
Filippo: It was not meant as a comeback. We were almost ready to enter the studio in 2020, then Covid happened and we lost our practice room. It was hard to rehearse, but we never thought about splitting up. We were just very slow.
As a matter of fact, we played a show as soon as it was possible -- our 10th anniversary show -- in 2022. After that we were stoked to finally finish the album. But then our drummer left the band. Our new drummer Tommy joined and we worked as hard as possible to record Breviario.
It felt urgent, both creatively and because of its message. A lot happened in those years, but something unfortunately seemed to persist: violence in all its forms. Breviario tries to denounce this violence in relationships, but it’s the same patriarchal violence that creates homophobia, racism, and new forms of colonialism. It’s all connected, and in the last few years we’ve seen it clearly enough.
