The Hussy
The Hussy

Bobby Hussy (The Hussy, Fire Heads, Cave Curse)

SPB: Are you partial to a specific model of guitar?

Bobby: I am partial to a few guitars depending on the project. In The Hussy I almost exclusively used offset Fender guitars like jaguars and jazzmasters, until rather recently when MPLS Guitars made me a custom guitar with a Fender Jazzmaster whammy for the new Looming LP. I love it! It feels like a Gibson but has the wild whammy of a jazzmaster!

In Fire Heads I always use a Gibson Les Paul. I love the “chunk” it puts off with high gain amps.

In Cave Curse I use a Gibson Flying V to get that cutting tone plus cutting “look”. :)

Bobby Hussy (The Hussy) SPB: Would you ever crowdfund a record? Hussy: I would never crowdfund a record. There are plenty of labels existing and getting music out to the people...and if they can't help you then do what Black Flag did and start a label yourself. Do you think … Read more

Looming
Dirtnap (2019)

It’s been fun watching The Hussy grow. All those scuzzy, dirty licks and rough-and-tumble beats of their early work is still present, but on Looming the now-trio lets the once understated melodies take the lead. It’s driving rock with some notable grooves, but it’s also singalong with shades of ‘60s garage, psychedelia, and even hints of pop.Looming contains 16 songs … Read more

The Volar EP
Volar Records (2015)

The Hussy keeps changing on me. That’s cool, though. Bands are like babies: they grow and change and…eventually abandon you in the old folks’ home. Er, whatever. The point is that over the Wisconsin duo’s lifetime they’ve shifted from abrasive noisy garage-punk to more melodic but tonally challenging garage-punk, which comes across really well here, where they take those fuzzed … Read more

Galore
Southpaw (2015)

Why have children when I can just listen to my music and watch the bands change and grow instead? First they learned to stumble, then to walk, and finally to slow dance. Er, I dunno. This metaphor fell apart before it even hit the page. What didn’t fall apart are Wisconsin duo The Hussy, a guitar and drum two-piece that falls … Read more

Scott O’Brien (Hooch, Smut Peddlers) SPB: How is the approach to your solo work different than with Smut Peddlers? Storm Boy What is your favorite 1990s artist? God there’s so much to draw from in so many different scene: much of which we consciously incorporate into our creative process -- like Fugazi, Jesus Lizard, the Cure, and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, but also bands that influenced us simply by … Read more
