We do a lot of different things at SPB. One of the pieces that's the most fun is finding and sharing new music, and we're excited to bring you "Black Sheep," a new song from Gloomy June (and a Metric cover).
The San Francisco band takes its name from the cold fog of their hometown, which is a good starting point for their melancholy meets beach party vibes.
Alexi Belchere explains:
To kick off our east coast tour this fall at Fest 20 we’re releasing “Black Sheep,” a cover of the amazing synth-heavy punk band Metric. The track was made famous by the film Scott Pilgrim VS The World, which is one of our favorite movies. We've been playing the cover on tour since late 2021, and it always bangs -- our favorite memory of performing it was Devin introducing it in Vancouver Canada as "the Canadian National Anthem" and watching the audience lose it.
We have another cover we plan to release before the end of the year, and in the meantime, we're back in the studio working on new tracks for an LP hopefully out in 2023.
Gloomy June is a continuation, of sorts, of The Y Axes, which featured similar members but evolved to a new sound and lineup over time. They released Popsick earlier this year and even shared some of their deep thoughts with SPB in a guest column called 6 Songs We Can Agree On In The Van.
