Roadburn Redux

Posted in Shows on February 6, 2021

The long running Roadburn Festival will be back for a special edition in 2021. Having been postponed in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Festival also announced that the 2021 edition would not be able to take place in the way that fans are used to. However, the organisational team have put together a programme for April 16-18 which will include performances from the main 013 Poppodium venue. Album debuts, commissioned music and a pre-recorded showcase from the Finnish underground in the form of Svart Sessions.

Confirmed so far are:

Dead Neanderthals, Gold, Jo Quail, Neptunian Maximalism, Of Blood & Mercury, and The Nest with new and commissioned performances alongside Autarkh, Emptiness and Plague Organ playing their newest records in full.

There is much more content to be unveiled and you can read about everythign that has been confirmed here

The live music world has been extraordinarily hard in the last 12 months and Roadburn are allowing for local bands to play on a stage (many have not been able to at all in recent times) and give others from across the world the chance to have their performances broadcast to an eager crowd. Access to Roadburn Redux is via this website and is on a "pay what you can" basis, ensuring that everyone will have an equal opportunity to experience the festival.

Artistic Director Walter Hoeijmakers says:

“The last year has been incredibly difficult for everybody to navigate; keeping safe is paramount, but it often came at the expense of the ‘normal’ life we’d come to enjoy. For us, that meant a halt to Roadburn as we knew it. However, Roadburn Redux gives us the opportunity to reconnect with the artists and community that are at the heart of Roadburn; to bring a bit of joy, friendship, inspiration, and most of all hope in these difficult times. I’m thrilled by the performances we’ve already secured – the format might be different, but the spirit of Roadburn remains strong.”

Roadburn is a festival like no other; the atmosphere is highly charged with excitement as bands come together to provide incredible and new experiences to the fans who travel from around the world. The festival is revered for good reason and Roadburn Redux will go some way to provide a similar feeling from the comfort of your own home. The hope is high that 2022's edition can go ahead as normal, although how the world looks in another 12 months is still up for debate. In any case, Roadburn Redux looks incredible from this first announcement and if past years are anything to judge by, there is a lot more of interest to come.
