SPB premiere: "My Pleasure" by O-D-EX (The Marked Men/Mind Spiders)

Posted in Videos on October 10, 2024

Meet O-D-EX, a chaotic and electric duo featuring Micah Why and Mark Ryan, who released their debut one year ago, Breaker.

Why and Ryan, best known as a member of The Marked Men and Mind Spiders, have built on a world of harsh synthesizers and drum samples, described as an antithesis to the analog approach used with Mind Spiders, citing Chrome and Mantronix as core influences. Why has previously worked with Kitbashes, Mission Giant, and Faux Fox and Ryan's resume extends beyond the groups named above as well. But the past is the past.

Today, we're excited to share a new video and news of a limited pressing 7" named My Pleasure that keeps the O-D-EX chaos going with sharp, pulsing, almost twitching attacks. The 7" will feature two new songs and Scene Point Blank has videos for each of them.

First comes the titular "My Pleasure," with O-D-EX giving us a glimpse into its soul:

Lyrically, the recording is based on an amusing observation of a particular type of individual. What might their choice of outward behavior reveal about their psyche?
Do they still like to dance?
Visually, that inquiry was echoed through the pulsing repetition of movement through a common liminal  household space, the hallway.
What thoughts or forces provoke   one to act in such a manner?
And in such a location?
Are they okay?
Can the orator/director be of some assistance?

The 7" will be a one-time pressing of 300 (200 on black, 100 on clear), available via Dirtnap Records. It releases on Nov. 15, 2024 with preorders available now.

Stay tuned for another video from the record a week from today.
