Willowtip Records to reissue Grief 'classic'

Posted in Labels on April 14, 2010

Official press release: Willowtip Records is very pleased to announce the licensing and reissuing of Grief's classic sludge/doom release, Come To Grief. Originally released in 1994 on Century Media Records, this reissue features expanded artwork and an unreleased track the band recorded for a low-budget horror movie. This long out of print classic will be in stores July 13, 2010. Boston's Grief was founded in 1991 by guitarist Terry Savastano and drummer Randy Odierno, both whom spent time in anarcho-punk band Disrupt. The combination of torturous vocals and slow, Sabbath-influenced riffs made Grief one of the more influential sludge/doom metal bands to emerge in the early 90's. The band released several seven inches, including a split with Dystopia, as well as Corrupted. Grief also appeared on a compilation album called Turbulent Times that was released in 2002 through Southern Lord Records. The group reunited for one show at the first annual New England Grind And Doom Fest on July 17, 2005 at The Middle East Cafe in Cambridge, MA. They were so excited by the response to this show that they began booking others, and they toured intermittently but officially disbanded in March of 2009.
