Jim Carroll (R.I.P.)

Poet, musician, and author Jim Carroll passed away late last week as a result of a heart attack.  In addition to fronting the Jim Carroll Band, Carroll collaborated with numerous musicians across a wide spectrum of styles: Lou Reed, Pearl Jam, Rancid, and Blue Öyster Cult, among others. Carroll is perhaps most well-known for his memoir The Basketball Diaries, which eventually was translated to film and starred Leonardo DiCaprio.  He was sixty years old.

Allen Shellenberger (R.I.P.)

Sky Saxon, the lead singer and bassist of the 60s rock band The Seeds, has died at the age of sixty-three. Saxon passed away today in an Austin, Texas hospital. He had been in the ICU with an undisclosed illness since Monday. Read more
