Our Best Place will come out on Feb. 15, 2023 -- a new album from long-running Japanese rock band Shonen Knife. While generally a very active group, Our Best Place is their first album in nearly three years, and their tenth for label Good Charamel (in North America). It follows Sweet Candy Power, released in 2019.
New songs such as "Nice Day" and "MUJINTO Rock" are reminiscent of The Jam and Buzzcocks, while the eccentricities of "The Story Of Baumkuchen" deliver the playfulness of their early sound with the hard rock influence that they've adopted as of late (which can never be completely removed).
The album is mostly original material, but also includes a re-recording of "Girl's Rock," first released on the L.T.D. - Girls Like To Dance compilation in 2003 and a cover song: "Just A Smile."
The band plans to tour internationally this year, playing Europe and the UK in spring, and North America later in the year.
