Tony Gonzalez (Barren Womb)

SPB: There was very little time between the first couple of Barren Womb releases. We have had to wait a bit for Old Money/New Lows. What caused the wait?

Tony: There are a couple of reasons for the gap between "Nique Everything" and "Old Money / New Lows". First of all, we were touring more in that period than we had previously, which made it more difficult to find time to write new stuff. We managed to release an acoustic EP last year though, so it wasn’t a complete dry spell by any means. Secondly, we wanted to make sure we didn’t retread familiar ground, that the material felt fresh and exciting. This gets harder to do with each subsequent release, but it’s really important for us to keep pushing into the unknown and out of our comfort zone.

Lizard Lounge
Loyal Blood Records (2020)

Barren Womb can hardly be accused of stagnation. Lizard Lounge, the fourth album by this hard working two-man band is again an interesting step further down the road. The band once started with a heavy Refused influenced framework on which they added whatever came to mind. The albums that followed showed slightly more focus, but Barren Womb kept writing songs … Read more

Old Money/New Lows
Spartan Records (2018)

Shortly after releasing their debut full length I had the opportunity to have a chat with Barren Womb. They then told me they liked playing in a two-man band as it gave them the opportunity to work really fast. The decision making process is so much easier without a lot of different opinions around. These words seemed to be true … Read more

Filippo (Shizune – bass) SPB: Breviario d'oblio is something of a comeback after 8 years. What triggered this comeback? Filippo: It was not meant as a comeback. We were almost ready to enter the studio in 2020, then Covid happened and we lost our practice room. It was hard to … Read more
