Cédric (Icare)

SPB: Charogne was written to be played live. Playing a 43-minute piece live seems like quite the task. Was the song intended like this or did it evolve into one epic piece (and a real challenge to be played live)?

Cédric: Charogne was always meant to be made up of one song only. At the end of the recording of the album Khaos, we felt the urge to take its concept to the next level by composing a song that would continue the whole album, being almost an additional track of it, even longer and more immersive than its last track.

The main challenge while playing a song that long is, indeed, the length of its repetitive parts that requires quite a lot of focus. It's actually as demanding as rewarding because beyond the difficulties lies a mesmerizing and jubilant aspect.

Charogne
Hummus Records (2022)

Swiss band Icare once started out as a studio project with no real intention to play live. Somewhere between their debut (Khaos) and their sophomore album, Charogne, this changed. The band wanted to play live. Of course you do that by playing one 43 minute long song. That sounds like solid logic right? It is a ballsy move indeed. What strikes … Read more
