Shaf (Naedr)

SPB: Exploring a new (to me) scene is always interesting and the Singapore scene is largely unknown to me. Please be our guide and show us a couple of highlights of the scene, where should we start exploring in your opinion?

Shaf: To be honest we have no idea where to even begin, haha. But in any case we figured it'd be best to compile a list of various Singaporean music platforms, labels, sites as well as bands that have all done and contributed remarkably to the Singapore music scene, be it in the past or current present day. They're all definitely worth checking out, and hopefully it would give a better insight to you regarding the music scene here in our little island!

Morgan (Visual Learner – bass) SPB: What was the first song you learned to play on your instrument? Morgan: I think the first song I learned on bass was either “No” by Subhumans or “Boredom” by the Buzzcocks. I was maybe 16? and traded a blunt to my boyfriend for … Read more

Andrew Burgess (Skyway) SPB: What is your favorite protest song? Burgess: My favorite protest song? That's a tough one. Rob (ButcherBird – guitar) SPB: How do you draw the line between taking influence vs. mimicking? Rob: When it comes to human creativity, almost nothing is truly and completely new. There’s a song by Iron Monkey called “House Anxiety” which has an absolutely crushing riff in it -- and it’s … Read more

If you are a frequent visitor of this site, perhaps you remember my glowing review of Naedrs debut album Past Is Prologue. That album made a huge impression on me and still gets heavy rotation. So you understand I was quite excited to see new material from this band. And it is a split release no less, so it presents … Read more

Sometimes I just can’t remember how something got my attention in the first place. One such example is longboarding. I picked it up somewhere, but I can not remember what made me try that. And I have been quite devoted to long distance longboarding. You might think I would remember why I started, but no. The same is the case … Read more
