Posted in Bands on July 1, 2013

We're proud to introduce a new series here at Scene Point Blank: One Question Interviews. Follow us at facebook or twitter and we'll post one interview every Monday-Thursday. Well, sometimes we miss a day, but it will be four each week.

After our social media followers get the first word, we'll later post a wrap-up here at the site. Check out our quickie Q&As below with members of Neurosis, Old Wounds, Ufomammut, and Soviettes.

Annie Sparrows (Soviettes, FM Wired, Lil Happiness, God Damn Doo Wop Band)
SPB: What’s the worst thing that’s happened to you on tour? Have you ever been stranded or had to cancel?

Sparrows: Yes, I TOTALLY got left at a gas station in the middle of nowhere by accident. Everyone else got about 5 miles away when they realized I wasn't asleep in the back of the van - this was before we had cell phones so it was lucky that they only got that far...

Soviettes did have to cancel a couple shows out of the hundreds we played but we NEVER did unless there was absolutely zero way we could physically get to the show. We played through lost voices, broken hands, fights, sickness, replacing band members - the only things that stopped us were a blizzard closing one of the passes in Montana (or maybe Washington?), our van breaking down (only once or twice did we have to cancel because of the van...usually we could get someone to pick us up or fix it in time to make it to the next show), and once we had to bail on the tail end of a tour because of a family emergency. Overall, though, we were pretty good at not whining about stuff, so I guess it always felt like "Meh, it could always be worse."

Neurosis

SPB: Personally speaking, what is the least favorite record you’ve released (of your own records, that is)? Why?

Neurosis: No regrets. Everything we have ever done and been a part of has made us who we are today. Each is crucial to our evolution as a band and human beings.

Urlo (Ufomammut)

SPB: Who is the most overrated band or musician of all time?

Surely, the most overrated band of all time is an Italian trio called Ufomammut.

Brandon Gallagher (Old Wounds)
SPB: Are trucker bombs allowed in the van? Have any stories?

Gallagher: At first, I had no idea what a trucker bomb was, so immediately I went to urban dictionary and found out that it simply means "pee bottle." I honestly don't think I could of gotten asked a better question, so here it goes. First and foremost, Old Wounds does not keep our van clean. Most of the time it's because of sheer laziness and just not wanting to get rid of our bottles. Towards the end of the tour we had completely killed our case of water, so there was a plethora of empty water bottles laying around. Not only that but there were even trickier bottles such as Mango Kombucha, Lemon Lime Gatorade, hell even some opaque bottles. It got to the point where, I kid you not, there must of been 10 pee bottles scattered throughout the van. We had unfortunately came up with a sick game—and I don't mean sick as in, like, "Woah, sick bike!"—where it was basically “Who's going to drink the first pee bottle?” Zak, the guitarist of Old Wounds, usually sleeps in the van to keep it safe, so one night I'm guessing he woke up and was like, "Boy am I thirsty.” [He] grabbed the closest water bottle and took a swig...

Let's just say when you drink a lot of water, your pee is pretty clear, and poor old Zak doesn't have the best eyesight without his glasses on. It was very unfortunate. Moral of the story? If you ever find yourself in our van, examine every bottle you find before you think it's a good idea to drink it, because chances are it's pee.
