SPB stream: The Meringues - Pavlova's Dog

Posted in Records on September 16, 2024

Out today, we’re sharing a full stream of Pavlova’s Dog, the latest album from party punk bank The Meringues, from Kingston, ONT. It is the second album from the band, built around the vocal tradeoffs and stage chemistry of Amanda Pants and Ted Evans, plus Jackson Baird and Alastair Morrison.

"When we wrote songs for this album and cut them down to the best of the bunch, we made a point of branching out and trying new things. But we always made sure to stay true to our own sound. If it didn't sound like 'The Meringues,' we'd re-work it, or eventually just scrap it if it didn't get there," says Evans, who also plays guitar. "As a group, we've always wanted to stay true to our vision, but also be open enough to grow and evolve along with the music, and with life. All 11 songs on Pavlova's Dog delve into a bit of new territory for us, but each one still portays just who we are."

The balance play hook-driven, catchy singalong music with punk flair, post-punk surprises, and new wave influence. The synth sound is driving and clean, but overall the production neatly balances raw energy with pristine sounds.
