I had a musician friend who would write folk-based songs and turn them into electronic music tracks. Problem was, while the essence of these songs was good, maybe great, they’d wind up being eight or nine-minute pieces that just struck me as being bloated. My thought was, if you have a great tune, just unleash it rather than laying down a piece that repeats the same thing two or three times just to pad out the running time.
St. Petersburg, Florida four-piece CODY, featuring members of Wolf-Face, Très Bien, and Changer, seems to subscribe to my line of thought. Their July 2020 release, the brisk A House That’s On Fire, boasts seven tracks, none of which surpasses the three-minute mark. At their core, these are just pleasant folk songs with compelling lyrics (bonus points for the amusing Hanson reference) that have, at times, been built out to be appealingly crunchy rock numbers.

Premiering here is a playful stop-motion music video about which the band explains: "’Keep Me Going’ is the intro track off CODY’s debut EP A House That’s On Fire. The band decided to keep it simple, having front man Cody Wilson draw a nice story about love on the water and take some photos of his work for your viewing pleasure."
