SPB premiere: "Don't Fit Anywhere" by Black Market Heart

Posted in Videos on June 2, 2026

Black Market Heart is back with the brand new single “Don’t Fit Anywhere,” a song about wrong decisions, that comes from their recently released What Happens In The Dark, out since April.

The trio from Los Angeles, CA features former members of The Lords of Altamont and play anxious post-punk, a sound that replicates the buzzing flourescents of LA sidewalks at night. Citing both The Jesus And Mary Chain and Joy Division as influences, think guitar-driven rock ‘n’  roll with both soaring heights and dark lows.

"'Don't Fit Anywhere' is about what happens when you make a decision based on something shiny and new, and realize too late that it was the wrong decision...and you're left all alone,” the band tells us.

The new video features comedian/writer Mariya Alexander and was directed by Tina Brugnoletti, who offers the following statement about its message:

In a world that sells constant connection we have become islands of isolation. Restorative solitude fights for existence, and curated perfection stifles the messy and authentic nature of our humanity, leaving us conflicted at our core. Societal demands of assimilation reveal the dissonance in our being. A moment to reconnect in music, in dance, in expression, is maybe all we need to feel ourselves again.
The core concept comes from the trope that women overwhelmingly state that the one thing we would do if all men were to vaporize would be to take a walk by ourselves, at night, with headphones on. This simple act, being so inherently unsafe in our world that even the visual representation reads as such. Our discomfort palpable in her defiance of restraint and seemed recklessness of her actions.

Although I had the tools to open this portal into the visual realm, we went in together, as art is a process of discovery.
Mariya’s performance and ability to tap into the energy are the vehicle for translation and transformation into our experience. Our collective connection to the song, the city, the mood, the vibe of our current times, all aligned our ability to pull this into existence from the other side. The act of making collaborative art becoming the antidote.
