Video Premiere - "Past, Present, No Future" by On the Cinder

Posted in Videos on September 23, 2021

Having lived in Buffalo, NY for a year just out of high school and experiencing everything the city had to offer, stuff like snow that lasts from October to April and, of course, Da Bills, I would expect that punk rock coming out of the area would be aggressive and hard-hitting, probably a little downbeat even. Enter On the Cinder, a three-piece formed in 2013. Following a string of releases over the years, the band is now gearing up for a new release, appropriately titled Sedentary Escape which releases next month on Flower House Records.

Lean and mean at just over 21 minutes, the album feels like something released amid a global pandemic and all the… wonderfulness that comes along with that. Discussing the release, the band had this to say:

"We were writing our third LP when the pandemic hit and the Great Pause began. And like everything else, we put the album on hold to write a new project that was tonally dynamic and to express a more complicated narrative than we've tried before. The three of us committed to a writing exercise that saw lyrical content coming from each of us and some bizarre musical references to make a diverse batch of songs that tell a cohesive story that is meant to be played straight through. The whiteboard in the practice space was a disaster. There were meticulous arguments over word choices. But we took the time to challenge ourselves to be more personal in ways we'd never been comfortable enough to do before."

Premiering here, we’ve got the pretty rad video for album track “Past, Present, No Future.” Check it out below, and head over here to preorder the album or other merch.
